Kate Sibley and Jeremy Grove, the husband and wife team behind Sibley Grove, set themselves a challenge when designing their first furniture collection – could they design and produce beautiful and affordable things in a way that doesn't exploit people or damage the environment. Their three debut pieces - The Single Fold Lampshade, The Butler bar stool and The Barley sofa - are all examples of stylish and affordable products made in London and produced sustainably and ethically.
Struggling to find high-quality furniture that was stylish and affordable as well as being produced sustainably and ethically, interior designers Kate and Jeremy decided to design their own. The Single Fold Lampshade is crafted using innovative folding techniques with a stunning pattern of polka dots and vivid blocks of colour. It is handmade in London from sustainable materials and non-toxic ink. The Butler is a sleek and elegant bar stool constructed from high-performance and tactile biodegradable materials. The Barley is a stylish, compact two-seat sofa made from sustainable upholstery and recyclable parts with cleverly upholstered cushions that can be turned to give four different colour combinations in a matter of seconds.
"Most manufacturing is deeply unsustainable. Despite our best recycling efforts it generates a staggering amount of waste and causes serious environmental harm. We are excited by new technologies that move us beyond the traditional 'make, use, dispose' patterns and let us replace the disposal phase with the creation of a new product." said Jeremy Grove.

The inks are soy based – an environmentally friendly alternative to petrol-based inks.
Paper – 100% recycled, unbleached (chlorine free) paper
Soy Ink – Not petrol based, low VOC, easier to recycle paper with soy ink that standard inks

Inspired by the design of traditional road bikes, The Butler is a sleek, elegant bar stool available in a large range of bright and colourful combinations. The seat is constructed using a bamboo base, natural latex foam and polyurethane faux leather. The faux leather performs and looks as good as the real thing but is free from the chemical-laden production techniques used by many leather suppliers, and is better environmentally than standard PVC faux leather alternatives. The natural latex, as opposed to synthetic latex, used for the cushioning is a natural product that biodegrades easily. It is also naturally flame proof meaning the toxic flame proofing process is avoided. Unlike many bar stools The Butler has been cleverly designed with an adjustable seat height of between 660mm and 900mm to ensure it is flexible and suitable for a variety of applications.
