Waterloo Food Festival Launch: chocolate workshop, pesto making and maki rolling on Lower Marsh

Learn about chocolate making, try maki rolling, make your own home-made pesto or join the ‘Vegetable Orchestra’ as they craft instruments from veg and then perform at this year’s launch event for the Waterloo Food Festival on Thursday 30th June. Visitors can also sample food and drink from many of the area’s favourite restaurants, cafes and food businesses as they set up stalls along Lower Marsh for the evening. There will be late-night openings from some of the businesses along the street, and live music from bands including Latin Dimension.

Make, Do & Mend Yourself Pesto Workshop, 5-8pm, Lower Marsh

An opportunity to learn all about supermarket herbs – how to make them last, re-plant them, and how to turn them into delicious homemade pesto.

Maki rolling competition with Yo Sushi, 5-9pm, Lower Marsh

Learn how to roll the perfect maki from a Yo Sushi master chef and then have a go in a competition to win fabulous foodie prizes.

Truffle making demos and tastings with chocolatier David Leslie, 5-9pm, Lower Marsh

Learn how to make your own truffles, and taste some of David Leslie’s chocolate creations.

‘Vegetable Orchestra’ making stall, from 5pm, Lower Marsh

Watch the ‘Vegetable Orchestra’ craft instruments from vegetables and then enjoy a performance.

Launch participants include: Assado, Cubana, Greensmiths, Konditor & Cook, Love & Scandal, Travelling Through, Wahaca and Yo Sushi. Market traders include: The Oystermen, House of Dodo, Smokin Lotus, The Duchess of Macarons, Jiminy Kricket, Sticky Bundits and Raffo & Ridgeway.

The Waterloo Food Festival is a whole month of exciting food and drink events, tastings and workshops taking place in SE1.  Unlike many food festivals it doesn’t take place in a tent or marquee but in and around Waterloo’s unique mix of cafes, bars, restaurants, pubs and shops. Participants include Penny, Mark’s Bar, Baltic, Cubana, Greensmiths, Konditor & Cook and Oasis Farm.

Some of the events taking place include: Pickling and Fermenting Workshop, Gin Masterclass, Mojito Making, Scandi Street Food, Farm Supper Club, Beer Tasting, Cake Tasting, How to Start Your Own Food Blog talk.
